Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (original title in English: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) A 2001 book written by British author JK Rowling about the magical creatures in the Harry Potter universe. It purports to be a copy of Harry Potter textbook of the same name mentioned in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the first novel in the Harry Potter series.

In a 2001 interview with the publisher Scholastic, Rowling said she chose the subject of magical creatures because it was a fun thing for which she had already developed a lot of information in earlier books. Rowling's name does not appear on the book cover, work credited under the pseudonym Newt Scamander being.

The September 12, 2013, Warner Bros. and Rowling announced that they will produce a film based on the book, the first of a new trilogy. Rowling will be the same writer. She came up with a plan for a film after Warner Bros. suggested the idea. The story will feature Newt Scamander as a main character and is not a prequel or sequel to the adventures of Potter, passing in New York 70 years before Harry's story begins.
